Privacy Policy & Editorial Disclaimers

1. Who We Are

The Water Standards (thewaterstandards.com) publishes written guides about what is in drinking water, how treatment and filtration remove it, and how to read the standards and test reports that describe both.

It is a small independent site, not a laboratory and not a trade body. It is not sponsored by, owned by or paid by any manufacturer of water treatment equipment.

2. How Our Guides Are Written — And What We Do Not Do

Everything here is written from published sources and cites them. Each guide lists the documents behind it — government agencies, standards bodies, universities and peer-reviewed journals — and you can follow every link and read the original.

To be explicit about what that does not include:

  • We do not test water or test products. No sample has been taken, no filter has been bought, installed or measured. Where you see a figure, it comes from a named document, not from us.
  • We do not recommend products, brands or models, and none are named anywhere on the site.
  • We do not give medical advice, and we do not tell you what any substance will do to your health. Where a legal limit exists we say who set it and what it is.
  • We are not a substitute for a test. Only a certified laboratory can tell you what is in the water at your own tap.

3. What Is Collected When You Visit

This site runs no analytics product of its own. There is no account to create, nothing to log in to, and no form anywhere on it, so we hold no name, email address or contact detail unless you choose to email us.

Two things do happen when a page loads:

  • The Pinterest tag. Pinterest's measurement tag runs on every page and reports the visit to Pinterest, which uses it to report on their own advertising and traffic. What Pinterest collects and how they use it is governed by their privacy policy, not ours.
  • Hosting records. Our host keeps the ordinary technical records needed to serve a web page, including the requesting IP address. We do not build profiles from them.

We do not sell, rent or trade personal information, and there is no advertising network on this site.

4. Cookies

The Pinterest tag described above sets cookies. Nothing else on this site does, and the site itself does not need cookies to work.

You can block or delete cookies in your browser, and every page will still function. We will say plainly that the Pinterest tag currently loads before you are asked about it; if you would rather it did not run at all, a tracker-blocking browser or extension will stop it.

5. Affiliate Links

There are currently no affiliate links on this site, and nothing here earns a commission. No affiliate programme has accepted this site, no product is linked, and no product is named.

That may change. If it does, every page carrying such a link will say so on the page itself, and this section will be rewritten before the first link goes live rather than after — the site cannot move into product coverage without that disclosure appearing, because the two are tied together in the build.

6. Health & Water Safety Disclaimer

The content published on The Water Standards is for educational and informational purposes only and does not constitute medical, engineering or plumbing advice. Water quality varies significantly by region, by supplier and by private well source, and it varies inside a building. Always consult a certified water testing laboratory and a qualified plumbing professional about your own household.
